Opening Circle
We’ll begin with a welcome circle to introduce ourselves and to learn more about the weekend’s retreat theme of longevity. This will be followed by a masterclass on your hips!

Katonah® Inspired Longevity Practice Katonah® Yoga poses are classically Hatha in nature. The method uses techniques of origami folding, geometric measure and the use of ancient numerical archetypes to infuse the practice with dimension, energy, and refinement. These techniques offer us a map with which to navigate a practice rather than overly relying on feelings or sensations. If a pose is measured well, if the geometry is correct, the body is supported by its own structure rather than relying on muscle.

A ‘take home’ at the end of our time together is a plan for your personal longevity daily home practice. This allows you to get in touch with the teacher within you and make it your sole focus. Within a ritualised space you create, you get to close the door to the outside world and begin the practice of tuning in to yourself. Using the same sequenced postures you will define, refine and redefine your practice.

You will establish a breath count (usually your age!) to help mark your practice and gain more fluidity. The longevity practice will help you to develop techniques and strengthen your concentration to aid your personal physiology and psychological health. The benefits are a deep sense of wellbeing and a long radiant life.

Pranayama Session

In this session you will explore the benefits of Pranayama - which translates to ‘extension of life force’. The breathing techniques of, Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana and Viloma pranayama can help you to slow your breath down allowing you to bring focus and breathe more deeply.

Most of us are chronic shallow inhalers, which can keep us on high alert and in a mild panicked state. Reducing your breathing rate can help reduce your heart rate, which in turn leads to reduced blood pressure and the relieving of unnecessary tension in the body.

More efficient breathing ultimately gets more oxygen into the body, and with less effort will give the heart, lungs and other organs a big break and help to reduce risks of cardiovascular disorders. We will also look at other pranayama practices and discover further benefits, including Kapalabhati - breath of fire. This is a rapid breath that builds heat helping to detoxify the body.

Roll and Release Session

A slow flow fascia release workshop to nourish the body. You’ll be guided using your asana and therapy-based ball work to help release old holding patterns and areas of tightness, unwinding the fascial web to restore freedom and lightness in the body. Working deep to affect the fascia, a fibrous membrane that envelops our entire body and reflects our habitual patterns, this session aims to be a gateway to deeper relaxation, experiencing deep release, letting go of held tightness to experience feeling balanced and restored.

Heavenly Hips - How to get into those Tight Bits and Keep Them Moving

The stress and activity of everyday life is often found lodged in the tightness and discomfort of the hips reducing our range of motion. Blockages in the hips can create issues in our legs and lower back and can also dull our creativity and sexuality. This session you will look at what old patterns you are holding in your hips and you how you can work on stabilizing and increasing mobility in all of the movements of this joint.

We will look at common ailments in this area like sciatica and tendonitis and find methods on how to deal with and avoid. Also discover how your yoga practice transforms when your hips are open. Your spinal twists will get deeper, warrior poses more powerful and you may even find arm balances become more accessible. Starting with a heat building warm up, followed by hip & thigh opening sun salutation sequences, then you’ll move into a series of hip openers where you will spend time breaking down and exploring the postures deeper.
So let’s get curious and investigate the range of motion of our hips and how to give them space to keep them moving and happy!

Envision Yoga session

Envision Yoga is a yoga sequence which artfully combines Kundalini Yoga movements with Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques (NLP). The sequence works through the chakra system, stimulating each energy centre with dynamic movement. Through the use of personal self-created mantras and partner work, it allows you to reprogram yourself to effect radical change in your life and experience. It is a fast track to move you from a small contracted, fearful and limited sense of self, to an expansive, unlimited and free expression of Self to help realise your true purpose in life. Envision Yoga is a transformational practice, which will profoundly change your own experience of and relationship to your own body, mind and soul. And finding and having meaning and purpose in your life has been said to be the most significant factor in life extension--even more important than diet or exercise.

Back Bending Practice - Open Your Heart and Shine your Light

This morning’s session you will look at opening your heart in your thoughts and emotions, as well as experiencing opening the heartspace in your physical body. This back bending (heart opening) workshop is designed to create space in the upper back, the chest and the heart area – creating potential in your life and body. The older we get the more important it is to keep moving into our potential and vitality.

During the workshop you will breathe through an intelligently designed Vinyasa flow focusing on the muscle groups that will allow the back to bend more easily. Exploring postures like Bow, Camel, and Bridge and all the modifications available to help you with your yoga journey. You will use props to help experience and come closer to deeper backbends such as Wheel, Dancer and King Pigeon.

As we’ve already seen our shoulders round forward due to modern life. This causes compression in the space around the heart and chest making it not only harder to take a deep, full breath, but it restricts blood-flow to our vital organs and glands increasing our risk of illness.

On an emotional level, this “rounding-in” creates a barrier around the heart. You will explore letting go of the armour you put on every day, working towards allowing yourselves to feel honest about who you are and your vulnerabilities and responding to this with kindness to help feel more connected to yourself and your loved ones. Essential to longevity is this sense of connectedness and having a strong sense of purpose.

Spread Your Wings - Yoga Therapy for Shoulders and Neck Relief

Are your shoulders tight, restricted and always rounded forwards? Does your neck feel in a state of permanent tension - even after a yoga class? If this is you, you will learn how to create greater ease in the overstressed muscles of your neck and shoulders.

With all the slumping forward activities that we do, such as leaning over computers/phones, driving cars and cycling, it’s easy to understand why our shoulder girdle and neck can get tight and sore. So we come to yoga to find release, but with the shoulders being an integral part of a dynamic yoga practice this could be continuing to load stress in this area.
In this fun and informative workshop you will be led through a dynamic yoga class, replete with poses that specifically target, open and liberate your shoulders and neck. You will get to retrain your shoulders and neck, breaking down yoga poses to look at common misalignments and bring vital shoulder stability into your practice.

Restorative yoga session

Another secret to aging gracefully and healthfully is a restorative yoga practice. It encourages a deeper connection with your body, helping you to gain a better understanding of your physical and psychological needs. You can start to develop a subtle awareness of what the aches, pains, tightness and injuries are trying to tell you. All of these sensations can give you valuable information about how your body is doing and how you can take better care of it.

And with the mind and body connection it also works the other way. Your mind hears how you’re treating your body, so by nourishing yourself with the peace and calm that you experience in a restorative class, you are signaling that youare your priority.

We’ve all heard the old adage of putting on your own oxygen mask first - So many people deplete themselves for the sake of others, when by taking care of their own needs first, they would actually be able to serve better.

We will hold a closing circle to honour the journey we have taken and to bring our time together to a completion.





Lisa Dunn is a yoga teacher and self proclaimed life-enthusiast whose serene and playful approach to her practice mirrors her compassionate free spirit.


Recently hitting the pause button on a fast paced life in London, she now calls the glory of Rome, home.


A believer in following your dreams, this mother of three left a successful career as a documentary producer at the BBC in London to pursue a passion for yoga.


Keen to share the liberating effect this 15-year practice had on her life, Lisa became a certified yoga instructor and has been a well-loved teacher for 8 years now. Her journey has taken her all over the world, most recently Suryalila Yoga Retreat Centre in Spain where she is a yoga teacher trainer for Frog Lotus Yoga International.


Lisa’s heart-centered approach is a reflection of her radiant personality. She brings a fresh and faithful eye to time-honored traditions and draws on the universal teachings of yoga, both on and off the mat. With an emphasis on the breath and intelligent flow sequencing, her classes are crafted to empower her students to develop their practice, and have a safe life-long yoga experience.


An eternal student, Lisa has more recently been exploring the Katonah® yoga method - "a commingling of classical Hatha yoga poses integrated with theories of sacred geometry that serve to develop stability and dimension".

The method teaches you to work smarter, not harder, Katonah says the body is meant to ‘fit’ from top to bottom and right to left. For example, your knee fits into your armpit in a lunge, and when it does, you get stability. These new forms of familiar poses can shed light on your habits, offering fresh perspective and insight into your yoga practice.
